Bakhoun Crowdfunding Campaign

Education facilities in rural Lebanese areas suffer from energy shortages due to excessive blackout, high diesel cost, scarcity of fuel, and high maintenance cost. The case of Bakhoun Technical School is no exception; the energy deficiency is disrupting the access to education to more than 900 students in this North Lebanon village.

Lighting up the future of 900 students

Education facilities in rural Lebanese areas suffer from energy shortages due to excessive blackout, high diesel cost, scarcity of fuel, and high maintenance cost. The case of Bakhoun Technical School is no exception; the energy deficiency is disrupting the access to education to more than 900 students in this Northern Lebanon village.

To support the operations of Bakhoun Technical School and grant access to quality education for all students, this school needs to be more independent in terms of energy production through relying on sustainable energy resources.

The Lebanese Solar Energy Society in collaboration with the EU, UNDP and the Clima-Med project, have the right tools to design and implement energy and environmental solutions that are sustainable, efficient, and green.

The total cost of this project is USD 20,000 for the installment of a small-scale Solar Photovoltaic power plant that would cover around 60% of the power consumption of the school and reduces around 16 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

With this project, the school management would save up to USD 4600 annually, keep the facility running, and grant healthy schooling conditions for the students.

The project is reliable and expandable, and, if successful, it will be replicated onto several facilities in different rural areas in Lebanon.

Keeping these classes up and running on sustainable, efficient, and green energy is a goal everyone is working towards!
