The municipality of Bejjeh is located in the qaza of Byblos, Mount Lebanon. The UNDP CEDRO project funded by the Spanish Government implemented the first geothermal heat pump system in Lebanon in 2011. The system is designed to replace the reliance on electricity and diesel fuel for both cooling and heating needs. The implementation is composed of 2 units connected in master-slave configuration with 60 kW cooling and 35 kW heating capacities. It is designed to save the municipality $3,800 per year on energy costs and 40 tons per year in CO2 emissions.
