MEDRAR is a NGO that provides health and developmental services to the vulnerable communities of Lebanon and countries across the Middle East and Africa. The MEDRAR medical facility is private hospital located in Choukine, Nabatieh, South Lebanon. The medical facility is in affiliation with the American University of Beirut Medical Center and is to be fully operational in 2021. The UNDP CEDRO 4 project funded by the EU with co-financing from the Ministry of Energy and Water, implemented in 2015 the first 1 MW geothermal heat pump system in the region composed of 100 m deep boreholes, heat exchangers and pumps. It is designed to save the hospital approximately $300,000 per year on water and space cooling and heating costs. The system saves on the environment on average 800 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
