The Defense sector has long been an important partner to the CEDRO projects. The project implemented several large water heating systems and solar PV systems in military academies, army barracks and prisons.

The project published in 2017, the sustainable energy strategy for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), where it set renewable energy and energy efficiency targets for 2030 that falls in line with Lebanon's goals within the UNFCCC framework. The strategy also identified a roadmap for implementation based on potential savings and cost of implementation.

In 2019 and based on the National Energy Strategy for the LAF, the Sustainable Energy for Security (SE4S) was launched through financing from the EU. The project focuses on implementing identified energy efficiency and renewable energy systems in the Lebanese 2nd border Army regiment located on the North-Eastern border with Syria. The systems span across the following technologies: solar and wind systems with lithium-ion storage, solar water heating systems, biomass stoves and boilers, energy efficient lighting, building retrofits and deployable renewable energy solutions.
