The street lighting in Rachaya, West Bekaa valley suffers from long hours of blackouts resulting in a sense of insecurity in the area during the night hours. In 2012, the UNDP CEDRO project funded by the spanish kingdom replaced 180 inefficient street lighting bulbs with efficienct and longer lasting LED lightings bulbs. The total installed capacity sums up to 5.4 kWp and are designed to save the municipality a total of $2,500 per year on electricirty cost and 16.6 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
