The street lighting in Akkar, North Lebanon suffers from long hours of blackouts resulting in a sense of insecurity in the area during the night hours. In 2015, the UNDP CEDRO project funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia implemented 500 solar street lighting poles with 240 Wp each. The total installed capacity sums up to 120 kWp and are designed to save the municipalities in Akkar a total of $18,000 per year on electricity cost and 120 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
