The Jdeidet Shouf Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) is owned by the Municipality of Jdeidet El Chouf and operated jointly between the Municipality and the Water Authority of Beirut and Mount Lebanon. The WWTP serves approximately 27,000 Lebanese and 3,000 Refugees that reside in the towns of Jdeide and Simkaniye. 1,200 m3 of waste water is treated every day in 3 phases and is then released in the nearby Awali river. In 2018, the UNDP CEDRO project funded by the Netherlands Kingdom implemented a 90 kWp solar PV system with a 258 kwh lithium-ion battery storage to power most of the plant's energy needs.
