The souther suburb union of four municipalities (Ghbeire, Haret Hreik, Bourj El Barajne and El Mraije) located in the souther suburb of Beirut. The union of municipality building is located in Bourj al Brajneh, it hosts the administrative building of the union along with the adjacent building dedicated to the firefighters of the area. In 2018, the UNDP CEDRO project funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands implemented a 105 kWp solar PV system that is designed to save the union $16,000 per year on electricity and fuel costs. The system saves on the environment 99 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
