The orphan welfare society is an NGO that aims at providing suitable shelter and education for orphans and vulnerable youth since 1952. The center is located in Saida, South Lebanon and caters to the educational , and social needs of 1,500 children, 500 of which are children with special needs and 38 of which are Syrian refugees. In 2018, the CEDRO UNDP project funded by the Netherlands Kingdom implemented a 303 kWp solar PV system on the rooftops of the facility (the system was funded in a partial grant of 25% from the project side and 75% from the beneficiary side). The system is designed to save the organization $75,000 per year in electricity and fuel cost and 317 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
