The Rene Mouwad Foundation was founded in 1991 to promote social, economic and rural development in Lebanon. In 2017, the ENPI MedSolar project funded by the EU implemented a 135 kWp solar system on RMF's Agricultural Center of the North, located in Aardat, Zgharta. The center provides cold storage for 2,400 tons of fruits, hosts a dairy processing facility that processes 3-4 tons of milk per day, a 100,000 liters olive collection facility and provides technical assistance and trainings to farmers of the area. The PV system is designed to save the center $18,000 per year on its electricity and fuel costs and 131 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
