Souk Akkar is a fruit and vegetable wholesale market that was launched as a private entity in January, 2014. The market is located in Qobbet Bshamra, near Bebnine and Abdeh roundabout, strategically located on the international road linking Tripoli, Beirut and the Syrian boarder, 3 km away from Qlayaat airport and 20 km away from Tripoli port. In 2016, the UNDP MedSolar project funded by the EU implemented a 112 kWp Solar PV system on the roof of the market. The System is designed to save $8,000 per year on diesel and electricity costs and 112 tons CO2 per year.
